Rohan – an osteopath and owner of a Melbourne based osteopath clinic
I work as an osteopath – I run a clinic in the city. Utilities have gone up a lot and electricity’s one of those that seems to be continually going up.

It’s just a bill that comes in and gets paid without really considering it.

I’d heard about the Victorian Energy Compare tool so I decided to have a look at it.

[Vision: Rohan entering his clinic and turning on the lights]

At first I thought this would be a bit too much of a hassle so I didn’t do it for quite a while.

When I finally did get onto it I realised it actually wasn’t very difficult and it didn’t actually take nearly as long as I thought it would.

[Vision: Rohan sitting at the computer using Victorian Energy Compare and downloading his smart meter data file from his electricity provider]

I went online and ticked a few boxes and answered a few questions. Then I had to download the smart meter data file from my current electricity provider, which took about five minutes or so but I could do it all online, right then and there.

And then, within a few moments, it would give me a comparison of what my costs and usage were now…

[Vision: examples of energy use in the office: turning on the heater, raising the electronic treatment bed]

And compare that with other providers that could perhaps give me a better deal.

It was quite a surprise to see how many offers there are and how much money you could potentially save.

It showed me that I could actually save about $400 to $500 off my annual bill so that was a pretty easy decision to make.

[Vision: Rohan taking payment from the patient at the counter, using the computer, the EFTPOS machine and the printer]

The benefit that it was a government tool gave me the confidence that it was an independent comparison.

Make a phone call, then switch providers. It was very easy.

As we’re part of a bigger building, there’s a lot of common areas with a lot of electricity costs and a lot of running costs…

So I’ll be definitely recommending the tool to the body corporate to see how much money we can save.

As an osteopath I work with a lot of athletes and performers, helping them to use their bodies more efficiently – and it’s not that much different with your business actually.

Any small business is looking to operate as efficiently as possible by reducing overheads and operating expenses.

[Vision: Rohan leaving the clinic and turning off the lights]

To use the tool and be able to save $400 or $500 was a great idea. Any small business owner should use this tool because there’s a good chance you’re going to save some money.

[Vision: Rohan talking direct to camera]

It’s a real no brainer.
